I Need A Hero!

Today, on my way to school, I was thinking about heroes. When you say heroes, what do you think of? Most people would start talking about people like superman or spiderman or a person with a power to do great things. But I beg to differ, yes these super heroes are amazing, they have entertained us and had a huge effect on the world but none of them are real!

Listening to a relatively new song by Skillet, called Hero on their new album Awake, I was inspired and thought about what makes a real hero. It came to me that a hero doesn’t need to be a superhuman with a power to increase their strength or allow them to fly, but what’s inside, what they are willing to do for you and other people.

A hero is someone that is willing to give themself for others, someone that is not afraid do give their life for the lives of others, someone that is willing to take a risk if the reward is helping someone survive, people that know the risk is there but put other peoples safety before their own.

Now at this point a lot of people would be thinking of police or army men fighting for our country...think again. Yes these people are incredibly courageous and do risk their life, but the risk they take is nothing compared to that of a hero. These guys must follow rules and if it is too risky it is a no go and they pull out. A hero will go all out no matter what the circumstances, no matter what the risk, and do anything they can to save a life.

Which would you prefer protecting you, a man with a gun when at too much of a risk pulls out because of protocol or rules, or a person that will stick by you no matter what, keep you safe no matter the cost.

It is these people I am talking about, no powers, no rules, not afraid of giving their life for yours. How many of these do you know? I bet you it’s not many, I bet that you are thinking about it, and there is only one or two people you can think of, if that. This world does not have enough heroes, but that is what makes them a hero. If everyone were a hero what would be the point?

If you know someone that has put their life on the line for someone else, I want you to thank them. Give them some motivation; let them know they are a hero.

Adam
